What is Revize?
The Revize Content Management Solution delivers affordable publication-based content management in a comprehensive, straightforward, platform-independent application. It is designed to integrate into new or existing sites seamlessly, and to encourage the collaborative processes that ensure the success of a web site.
Unlike competing solutions, Revize is cost-effective, fast, easy to learn, and flexible. It allows web applications to mine the sum of knowledge that contributors have to offer. Revize offers a simple solution for users who have neither the technical knowledge nor the time to acquire it.
A Complete Solution
For a publication-based information management system to be useful, it must offer all of the functions that webmasters need. As we already know, one of the main advantages of publication-based systems over full-blown database integration is the comparative simplicity and purpose-built architecture of such systems.
Revize offers all of the components a webmaster needs to build a content management system, without dependencies on external components. Authentication, database, scripting services, and client interfaces are all integrated into a complete solution with no surprises or hidden costs.
Self-Service Content Creation
As contributors add information to the site, the structure of the site actually grows dynamically. The publication server performs basic functions such as replacing text on a page, but it will also assemble complex sequences of links and indices, modifying not only a page of content but also the related links and structures within the site. Once the webmaster has created the basic scripts to assemble and publish content to the site, contributors can introduce information into the system without the involvement of the webmaster.
Authorization and Security Model
Revize includes an authentication system that offers multiple levels of security for peace-of-mind protection. Login pages can be hidden behind password-protectedsites, and logging in as a contributor requires a username and password over which the webmaster/site administrator has complete control. Once authenticated, users can create, modify, or delete information as well as approve content for publication according to their permissions.
How Revize Works
To use Revize, a webmaster generates a template that describes the appearance of the page using standard HTML. Where the webmaster wants contributed content to appear, they use a simple set of HTML tags to tell the publication server how to assemble the information. At the same time, contributors use the Revize system right in their web browser to define content that will be integrated into the site. Since a Revize module (table) defines the connection between the contributed content and the templates, publishing of the content is automated.
Once a module is created, the publication server generates multiple pages -- including the appropriate code for hyperlinks -- automatically. As contributors add information to the site, the publication server extends the information structure without the webmaster's intervention.
